Our Lady of Prompt Succor is known as the Patroness of Louisiana. She is seen holding baby Jesus with gold crowns on both of their heads as a statue in the Ursuline Convent in New Orleans, Louisiana. This is the exact statue modeled at Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Sulphur. As the story goes, during the great fire on Good Friday in 1788 in New Orleans, one of the nuns prayed, “Our Lady of Prompt Succor, we are lost without your aid,” the fire turned and the convent was saved. In 1815, when the British were fighting the newly established American Army, General Andrew Jackson asked the Ursuline nuns to pray. The nuns started praying during mass asking Our Lady of Prompt Succor for her intercession, and the commander had announced just 30 minutes after the battle that they had won the war. The people of New Orleans still recite this prayer if there is ever any harm or hurricane threatening the city.
