The image of Mother Mary as The Immaculate Conception refers to the dogma that the Blessed Virgin Mary was conceived without any stain of Original Sin in preparation for becoming the Mother of God, the Son Jesus Christ. Typically, people may understand the “immaculate conception” as Jesus’ conception, however understanding that it’s actually referring to Mary’s is even more special. This unique privilege enabled her to fulfill perfectly her unique mission as the Mother of God. The Catholic Church has celebrated the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary with a feast since the early fifth century, and it was made a Holy Day of Obligation in 1708. We celebrate the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary on December 8.
