Let's talk about Lent 🖤

Let's talk about Lent 🖤

What is Lent? A lot of Christians around the world begin this solemn season by going to a service on Ash Wednesday and receiving an ash cross on the foreheads to remind us that ‘we are dust and to dust we shall return’. To remind us that this world isn’t all there is.

Although Lent can be and should be a season of fasting and prayer, that doesn’t mean it has to be dreadful. Lent happens right in the point of the year that spring is on the horizon and it can be and should be a joyful time! I want to share a few ideas on how you can celebrate this season- whether you have been doing this your whole life or maybe you’re just dipping your toes into it.

Ideas related to Fashion

  • Intentionally choose your outfit every day. While you are getting dressed, remind yourself that you were made in the image of God and renounce any lies that come up about your body image.
  • Only purchase locally. Give up Amazon, Target, etc. and only purchase from small businesses during Lent while being aware of only purchasing things you need.

Ideas related to Prayer

  • Praying for others. Write out 40 names of people to pray for each day of Lent.
  • Silence. While driving, spend the first 10 minutes in the car in silence with your thoughts.

Ideas related to Community

  • Fish Fry. Choose at least 1 fish fry to attend at a local church to support their ministries and meet some new people! (Always a plus…they usually have beer and it’s always a good time!)
  • Write letters. Once a week, write a letter to a loved one you haven’t talked to in a while, a friend who might need a pick-me-up or your mom who would always love to hear from you!

Know that I am praying for each and every one of you this Lent! Leave a comment with any other ideas you have or things you are doing this Lent.
